Description
Myrrh Essential Oil — a deep, earthy, resinous scent with thousands of years of history, made for evening rituals and oriental-style blends.
Myrrh is the reddish-brown resin of the thorny Commiphora myrrha tree, native to north-east Africa and south-west Asia. The oil is obtained from it by steam distillation — it ranges from amber to brown in colour and has a warm, earthy aroma.
Myrrh has been treasured by many cultures since antiquity: it was used as a spice, in incense, in religious ceremonies, and for purifying and embalming the dead. It is best known as one of the gifts of the three wise men, alongside gold and frankincense — and it is mentioned in the Bible no fewer than 152 times!
How to use myrrh essential oil
- in an oil burner or diffuser — a few drops for a calm evening and a quiet moment,
- in fragrance blends — it adds depth and warmth,
- for massage — diluted in a carrier oil for an enveloping, resinous scent,
- in home care — a drop in a portion of hand cream or body lotion (always at a low concentration).
Volume: 10 ml.
Caution
Do not ingest. Always dilute in a carrier oil before applying to skin and patch test first: apply a drop of diluted oil to the inner forearm — if any reaction appears within 24 hours, do not use on skin. Keep out of reach of children. If pregnant, breastfeeding or under medical care, consult your doctor. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
