How does an aromatherapy necklace work?

Inside the stainless steel locket there is room for a felt pad. Just add a few drops of oil to the pad, close the locket and put the necklace on — a gentle scent stays with you all day. When the oil has evaporated, add a few more drops or swap the pad for another and change the scent.

The lockets are 2.5 cm or 3 cm in diameter. The smaller one is more subtle; the larger one is more eye-catching. Which oils to use in your necklace?
