USB diffusers for essential oils — how to choose

A diffuser is the easiest way to fill a room with the scent of your favourite essential oil. Pour in water, add a few drops of oil and switch it on — the device does the rest. All our models are USB-powered, so they work well in the living room, bedroom or on your desk.

How does an ultrasonic diffuser work?

Ultrasonic vibrations turn the water and oil into a fine, cool mist. There is no heating and no open flame, so the scent spreads gently and the oil itself is not heated.

Diffuser, humidifier or oil burner?

A humidifier is mainly designed to raise air humidity and usually is not meant for oils. A diffuser has a different job — to spread scent. An oil burner works with the heat of a tea light, and a reed diffuser scents a room for weeks without power or attention. If you want convenience, a timer and no flame — choose a USB diffuser.

What to look for

  • Tank capacity — 120 ml is enough for a desk or a smaller room; 300–400 ml means longer running without refilling and suits a living room better.
  • Timer — our models have 1, 3 and 6-hour settings.
  • Automatic shut-off — the diffuser switches off when the water runs out.
  • LED lighting — soft, colourful light that can be turned off.
  • Look — every model comes in white, light wood or dark wood.

How to use and clean your diffuser

Fill the tank with water up to the marked line, add a few drops of oil and set the timer. Every few uses empty the tank, wipe it with a soft cloth and let it dry — scents will not mix and the device will keep working well for longer. Detailed advice is in the instructions supplied with the diffuser.

Which oils to choose?

Essential oils that disperse in the water tank are suitable for a diffuser. Start with a classic — lavender oils — or try ready-made essential oil blends. Looking for scent without power? See reed diffusers and car diffusers.

Frequently asked questions

How many drops of oil should I add?

Usually 3–5 drops for a smaller tank (120 ml) and 6–10 drops for a larger one (300–400 ml). Start with less and adjust to the size of the room and your preferences.

How long can the diffuser run?

Our models have a 1, 3 or 6-hour timer and switch off automatically when the water runs out. A larger tank (300–400 ml) allows longer running without refilling.

What water should I use?

Ideally boiled and cooled or filtered water at room temperature. Hard tap water leaves limescale faster.

How do I clean the diffuser?

Unplug it, pour out the remaining water, wipe the tank with a soft cloth and let it dry. Do this every few uses and always before changing scent.

What is the difference between a diffuser and a humidifier?

A humidifier is mainly used to raise air humidity and usually is not meant for oils. A diffuser spreads the scent of essential oil as a cool mist.
