Description
Bergamot essential oil has a light citrus scent with floral notes — you know it from Earl Grey tea!
Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) is a fragrant citrus fruit, pear-shaped and the size of an orange, with yellow-green skin. It is likely a hybrid of lemon and bitter orange. The fruit itself is too bitter to eat, but tea lovers adore the oil from its peel — it is what gives Earl Grey its signature aroma.
Bergamot oil is extracted from the peel. It stands out among citrus oils because its scent is both uplifting and calming — which is why it is a favourite in aromatherapy for creating a bright, peaceful atmosphere. In cosmetics it is prized for its fresh, clean aroma.
How to use bergamot essential oil
- in a diffuser — for a cheerful atmosphere on grey days,
- in the bath — a few drops with a carrier oil or bath salts for a relaxing moment,
- in homemade perfumes — as a fresh top note, lovely with lavender and jasmine,
- in a massage oil — diluted in a carrier oil.
Volume: 10 ml.
Directions
Diffuser: 3–4 drops. On skin: always diluted in a carrier oil (e.g. coconut, sweet almond or grapeseed oil).
Caution
Do not swallow. May cause an allergic reaction — patch test first: apply a drop of diluted oil behind the ear or on the inner forearm; if any reaction appears within 24 hours, do not use on skin. Keep out of reach of children. If pregnant, breastfeeding or under medical care, consult your doctor. Avoid contact with eyes, the inner ear and sensitive areas. Citrus oils may make skin more sensitive to sunlight — avoid sun exposure for several hours after applying to skin.
