Description
Patchouli essential oil has an earthy, sweet and spicy scent with a deep, almost sensual character — unmistakable and unlike any other.
Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) is a plant in the mint family (Lamiaceae). It is a bushy perennial herb with upright stems reaching around 75 cm and small, pale pink-white flowers. Native to the island region of Southeast Asia (Sri Lanka, Indonesia, New Guinea, the Philippines), it is now extensively cultivated for its many uses.
Patchouli oil has been valued for centuries in cosmetics and perfumery — it is often added to perfumes, cosmetics and incense. It is great for diffusing, and in aromatherapy its deep scent is associated with a grounded, balanced feeling.
How to use patchouli essential oil
- in a diffuser — for a warm, cosy atmosphere,
- in skincare — a drop in a little carrier oil or cream,
- in hair care — a drop in your shampoo,
- in homemade perfumes — as a base note, it pairs beautifully with lavender, rose and citrus,
- in sachets for wardrobes and drawers.
Volume: 10 ml.
Directions
Diffuser: 3–4 drops. On skin: always diluted in a carrier oil (e.g. coconut, sweet almond or grapeseed oil).
Caution
Do not swallow. May cause an allergic reaction — patch test first: apply a drop of diluted oil behind the ear or on the inner forearm; if any reaction appears within 24 hours, do not use on skin. Keep out of reach of children. If pregnant, breastfeeding or under medical care, consult your doctor. Avoid contact with eyes, the inner ear and sensitive areas.
