Description
Fennel seed essential oil has a sweet, aniseed aroma with a hint of liquorice — warm, cosy and truly distinctive.
Fennel, or sweet fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), is a flowering plant in the carrot family (Apiaceae) — a hardy perennial herb with yellow flowers and feathery leaves. Native to the shores of the Mediterranean, it has become naturalised in many parts of the world. It has been valued for centuries for its distinctive, liquorice-like flavour and aroma.
Sweet fennel oil contains about 70–80% trans-anethole — the compound behind its sweet, aniseed scent. In cosmetics, fennel oil is sometimes added to skincare products that give the skin a fresh, well-cared-for look.
How to use fennel seed essential oil
- in a diffuser — for a warm, sweet-spicy atmosphere, especially in autumn and winter,
- in homemade cosmetics — a drop in your cream or carrier oil,
- in a massage oil — diluted in a carrier oil,
- in blends with citrus or lavender oils.
Volume: 10 ml.
Directions
Diffuser: 3–4 drops. On skin: always diluted in a carrier oil (e.g. coconut, sweet almond or grapeseed oil).
Caution
Do not swallow. May cause an allergic reaction — patch test first: apply a drop of diluted oil behind the ear or on the inner forearm; if any reaction appears within 24 hours, do not use on skin. Keep out of reach of children. If pregnant, breastfeeding or under medical care, consult your doctor. Avoid contact with eyes, the inner ear and sensitive areas.
