Pure Frankincense Essential Oil (Olibanum) — a woody, spicy scent that has accompanied moments of focus and meditation for thousands of years.

Boswellia sacra, known as the frankincense or olibanum tree, belongs to the torchwood family and usually grows in the dry, mountainous regions of India, Africa and the Middle East. Frankincense is made by collecting and drying its resin, from which the oil is then steam-distilled.

Since ancient times frankincense has symbolised the divine and been used in religious ceremonies. It was one of the most precious goods of biblical times — valuable enough to be offered to the newborn Jesus. Today frankincense oil is also used in perfumes, incense and skincare products. In aromatherapy it is valued for its soothing character — especially during meditation and evening rituals.

How to use frankincense essential oil

• in a diffuser or oil burner — during meditation or for a calm evening,
• for massage — diluted in a carrier oil,
• in skincare — a drop in a portion of cream or body oil lends it a refined scent,
• in blends — it pairs well with citrus oils (lime, lemon, wild orange) as well as cypress, lavender, geranium, rose, sandalwood, ylang ylang and clary sage.

Do not ingest. Always dilute in a carrier oil before applying to skin and patch test first: apply a drop of diluted oil to the inner forearm — if any reaction appears within 24 hours, do not use on skin. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid during pregnancy. If breastfeeding or under medical care, consult your doctor. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
