Description
Castor oil is a thick, pale yellow oil from castor seeds — a natural beauty classic — a great base for diluting essential oils. Essential oils are too concentrated to apply straight to the skin, so blend them with an oil like this one before a massage or bath.
The castor plant (Ricinus communis) is native to the Mediterranean and the tropical regions of Africa and India, and now grows in other tropical areas too. Castor oil, sometimes called ricinus oil, is a pale yellow vegetable oil produced by pressing the seeds.
Its main constituents are ricinoleic, oleic, linoleic (omega-6), alpha-linolenic (omega-3), stearic and palmitic acids — making it one of the richest seed oils. It has a thick, distinctive texture and many industrial uses, and in natural beauty it is a true classic — often found in homemade cosmetics, hair care blends and body oils.
