Description
Nutmeg Essential Oil has a strong, spicy scent with a uniquely pleasant, musky undertone — warm, mysterious and sensual.
The nutmeg tree (Myristica fragrans) is an evergreen native to the Banda Islands — part of the Moluccas, the Spice Islands, in the Indonesian part of the Malay Archipelago. It is the main source of the spices nutmeg and mace, and the dried seed kernels are what we know as nutmeg. The oil is obtained by steam distillation of the seeds.
Nutmeg oil is a volatile, thin, light yellow liquid. It blends beautifully with other spice oils, as well as with floral, citrus and wood oils. Known since ancient times, it is still associated with romance and is said to spark the imagination.
How to use nutmeg essential oil
- in an oil burner or diffuser — for warm, atmospheric evenings,
- for a warming massage — diluted in a carrier oil,
- in potpourri and homemade scented sachets,
- in skincare and homemade soaps — as a spicy fragrance note,
- in blends with orange, cinnamon, rose or sandalwood.
Volume: 10 ml.
Directions
Diffuser or oil burner: a few drops. On skin: always diluted in a carrier oil (e.g. sweet almond, jojoba or coconut).
Caution
Do not swallow. Always dilute in a carrier oil before applying to skin and patch test first: apply a drop of the diluted oil to the inner forearm — if any reaction appears within 24 hours, do not use on skin. This is an intense oil — use sparingly and at a low concentration. Keep out of reach of children. If pregnant, breastfeeding or under medical care, consult your doctor.
