Description
Spanish Marjoram Essential Oil has an intense, herbal, slightly camphoraceous scent of Mediterranean scrubland.
The oil is steam distilled from Thymus mastichina. This plant is actually a wild-growing thyme, known as Spanish marjoram. It belongs to the mint family (Lamiaceae) and differs from sweet or French marjoram. It is also often confused with oregano, which in some parts of the world is called wild marjoram. The plant has a hairy stem, oval leaves and small whitish flowers in clusters, and the whole plant gives off a strong aroma.
Marjoram has been a renowned herb since ancient times. The Greeks and Romans crowned brides with marjoram wreaths to symbolise love, honour and happiness, and bards and actors drank marjoram tea with honey to look after their precious voices.
