Amyris Essential Oil (Sandalwood) 10 ml

Amyris essential oil, also called West Indian sandalwood, has a warm, woody, gently balsamic scent — as comforting as an evening by the fire.

Amyris balsamifera, despite its West Indian sandalwood name, originates from the Caribbean. It belongs to a group of trees known as torchwoods, prized for their highly flammable wood, once often used in beacons and torches. The tree grows up to 20 m tall and has unmistakable white flowers. The oil is steam-distilled from the bark that peels off the tree naturally — rather than from the leaves or flowers — which makes it a more sustainable crop.

The bark has an extremely high natural oil content, and its fragrance is much like sandalwood — which is why amyris is one of the most common replacements for endangered true sandalwood. Its woody aroma is reminiscent of benzoin, and perfumers often use it as a fixative to extend the life of a blend. True to the nature of base notes, it brings a grounding, calming feel.

How to use amyris essential oil

• in a diffuser — for a warm, peaceful evening atmosphere,
• in a massage oil — diluted in a carrier oil, to unwind after a long day,
• in homemade perfumes and blends — as a base note and fixative,
• in the bath — a few drops with a carrier oil or bath salts.

Volume: 10 ml.

Directions
Diffuser: 3–4 drops. On skin: always diluted in a carrier oil (e.g. coconut, sweet almond or grapeseed oil).

Caution
Do not swallow. May cause an allergic reaction — patch test first: apply a drop of diluted oil behind the ear or on the inner forearm; if any reaction appears within 24 hours, do not use on skin. Keep out of reach of children. If pregnant, breastfeeding or under medical care, consult your doctor. Avoid contact with eyes, the inner ear and sensitive areas. Avoid use during pregnancy.
