Description
Safflower carrier oil is a light oil from the seeds of a plant grown since ancient Egypt — a great base for diluting essential oils. Essential oils are too concentrated to apply straight to the skin, so blend them with an oil like this one before a massage or bath.
Safflower oil, also known as saffron oil, comes from the seeds of the safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) — an annual of the daisy family and a close cousin of the sunflower. Safflower was once used as a dye and a cheaper substitute for saffron, hence the name. It is one of the oldest crops known, with a history reaching back to ancient Egypt and Greece. Today it is increasingly used in skincare, both in body oils and as a base for essential oils.
Safflower oil contains almost 75% linoleic acid — much more than most other oils — along with monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. It has a light texture and spreads easily.
