Description
English lavender essential oil is a concentrated oil obtained by steam distillation of true lavender flowers.
Lavender has accompanied everyday care and home rituals for centuries — added to baths, linen cupboards and homemade cosmetics. Its fresh, sweet, slightly floral-fruity scent is also prized by perfumers. Blend it with carrier oils such as coconut, sweet almond, grapeseed, jojoba or avocado to create your own fragrance and massage blends.
We often picture French lavender fields, but there are more varieties. How does English lavender differ?
- Popularity — gardeners choose English lavender more often than French.
- Hardiness — English lavender copes better with changeable weather.
- Height — it grows to about 60–90 cm, French lavender to about 60 cm.
- Flowering — flowers are of similar size, but French lavender flowers longer, from spring through summer.
- Scent — French lavender is delicate with a hint of rosemary; English lavender has the intense, classic lavender aroma.
How to use:
- in the bath — a few drops mixed with a carrier oil or bath salts for an evening unwind,
- for a neck and temple massage — diluted in a carrier oil,
- in the bedroom — a drop on a tissue by your pillow for a pleasant, calming scent,
- as a room freshener — a few drops with water in a spray bottle.
Directions
Diffuser: 3–4 drops. On skin: always diluted in a carrier oil (e.g. coconut oil).
Caution
May cause an allergic reaction — patch test first: apply a drop of diluted oil behind the ear or on the inner forearm; if any reaction appears within 24 hours, do not use on skin. Keep out of reach of children. If pregnant, breastfeeding or under medical care, consult your doctor. Avoid contact with eyes, the inner ear and sensitive areas.
