<trp-tag data-no-translation="">**Olive oil** is a Mediterranean classic for skincare and massage — a great base for diluting essential oils. Essential oils are too concentrated to apply straight to the skin, so blend them with an oil like this one before a massage or bath.

Olive oil is a natural oil extracted from the fruit of the olive tree — interestingly, from the pulp rather than the seed, as with most common oils. It is very stable and keeps well: it will not spoil for over a year even without refrigeration. It originates from the Mediterranean, and archaeological evidence shows olives were being pressed for oil as early as 6000 BC.

Olive oil is 99% triacylglycerols, including oleic acid, linoleic acid and omega-3. It is rich in phenolic antioxidants and contains vitamins A, B1, C and E. Squalene and palmitic acid act as natural emollients, softening dry, rough skin. All this makes olive oil an excellent carrier for massage and hair care.

### How to use olive oil in skincare

- as a base for diluting essential oils — for massage, baths and your own fragrance blends,
- for massage — on its own or with a few drops of your favourite essential oil,
- in your everyday body and hand care and hair care,
- as an ingredient in homemade cosmetics — scrubs, balms and body oils.
