<trp-tag data-no-translation="">**Vetiver Essential Oil** — a deep, sweet-woody, earthy scent of roots, known as the ‘oil of tranquillity’ and the ‘scent of the earth’.

The oil comes from the aromatic roots of vetiver (*Vetiveria zizanioides*), a tufted green grass native to India that grows to 1.5 m or more. It is also known as khus oil. Vetiver roots are unique — they grow straight down, forming a dense tangle in the soil. The plant belongs to the same family as other grasses used for essential oils, including lemongrass and citronella.

The scent is strong and distinctive: sharp-sweet, woody and earthy — you will often find it in men’s colognes. Its grounding, sensual, enveloping character makes vetiver a favourite base for evening blends and quiet-moment compositions.

### How to use vetiver essential oil

- in a diffuser or oil burner — in the evening, for a calm atmosphere in the bedroom or living room,
- in homemade perfumes and blends — as a deep base note that anchors lighter scents,
- for massage — diluted in a carrier oil for an evening unwind,
- on the patio or in the garden — insects aren’t fond of its scent.

Always dilute in a carrier oil before applying to skin and patch test first: apply a drop of diluted oil to the inner forearm — if any reaction appears within 24 hours, do not use on skin.
